Life and Health


The Missouri Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association is a non-profit legal entity created by the Missouri legislature to provide protection within limits, to Missouri resident policyholders in the event of an insolvency of a member insurance company.
Limits for Insolvencies on or after August 28, 2013

The Missouri Life & Health Insurance Guaranty Association provides protection within limits for certain statutorily defined obligations of insolvent member insurers. The following list contains some of the more general limitations and maximum amounts of the protection that is provided:
Cash Value or Surrender Value of Annuities – $250,000
Cash Value or Surrender Value of Life Insurance Policies – $100,000
Death Benefits of Life Insurance Policies – $300,000
Unpaid Health Insurance Claims – $500,000 for Major Medical
Long-term Care and Long-term Disability – $300,000
Corporate Owned Life Insurance – $5 million Aggregate per Owner

These maximums and limitations are applied on a per insured/per insolvency basis.

Coverage is provided to owners of covered contracts who are residents of the State of Missouri, except as otherwise provided for by the statute.

To provide this protection, the Guaranty Association continues insurance policy coverage while paying the claims and other policy benefits under life, annuity, accident and health insurance policies.
